Pierre Schryer, fiddle
This school program features Pierre Schryer, Canadian Fiddling Champion, and Martine Billette, step dancer, in concert with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. Together they will look at folk influences on classical music and share their joy for music with this young audience, performing French Canadian and Scottish Reels. Pierre truly captivates young audiences with his energy, genuine warmth and ability to play in any style from Irish to Scottish and Quebecois to Appalachian.

Richard Stoltzman, clarinet
This school program features Richard Stoltzman, world-renowned clarinetist, in concert with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. Together they will celebrate the life and music of Benny Goodman. Benny Goodman, known as the “King of Swing”, “The Professor”, “Swing’s Senior Statesman” smuggled Jazz into the hallowed halls of European Culture forever changing the evolution of popular music.
For teachers
A comprehensive Teachers Guide will be distributed to each participating class to help prepare the students for their concert experience.
The guide will include the following:
• details about the concert
• class activities
• suggested listening
• suggested reading
A Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony musician or small ensemble will visit each school before their concert date to connect with the students and provide a preview of what to expect. That same musician or ensemble will re-visit the same class after the concert for follow-up.
All performances:
• take place at the Centre In the Square, Kitchener
• are one hour long
Tickets are still only $6 each, 2 free with every 10 purchased if ordered by October 17.
